Movie Night: Conscious Evolution:The World at One

Join us this evening as we welcome the remarkable artist (and friend of Rev. Diane Berke) Angela Manno. Angela is a three-time grant recipient from the Xerox corporation and has been described as "a visionary artist deeply committed to the transformation of human consciousness, and our collective responsibility for the state of the planet" by Elinor Gadon, Art Historian and Professor of World and Feminist Studies at Tufts and Harvard Universities.

Angela will show her short film, "Conscious Evolution: The World at One", which captures her art exhibit focusing on global unity. Set to an original, spellbinding soundtrack, Angela's powerful imagery combined with quotations from some of the world's greatest global and ecological thinkers produces a deeply meditative and highly inspirational effect.

Largely inspired by views of Earth from space, the artworks have been acknowledged by many of the lunar and shuttle astronauts as expressing the feelings, hopes and concerns they have had as a result of seeing Earth from afar. This entire exhibition is now housed in the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum.

As we awaken into the Spring season and Earth's renewal with Angela's stirring presentation, she will host a discussion following her film, with time for a Q and A with the audience.

Following a short intermission, we will continue the theme of Earth's reawakening with a one-hour documentary film by the world-renowned eco-theologian Thomas Berry.

A monk, cultural historian, author, teacher and a mystic, this pioneer in the field of spirituality and ecology sees his life work as waking us up to the sacred story of creation, reminding us that "we are not a collection of objects but a communion of subjects". Indeed, at the heart of this film is Berry's experience of the universe as a cosmic liturgy. His values are rooted in this sacred cosmology which includes all of life. Matthew Fox said, "We are grateful to Thomas Berry and to the makers of this marvelous film who have captured some of his spirit and his deep message so important for our times".

Between the heart-opening images of the natural world and its variety of creatures, coupled with the deep wisdom of Thomas Berry's words, I found this film to be a powerful reminder of our responsibility to our home planet and to each other.

Please come share community, film and discussion, and of course, snacks! I look forward to meeting you there.
Rev. Lili Berley
